9/4 email update

Good evening TNHSXC family.  We had a terrific showing at the Labor Day 5k/10k today. Five of the HS boys rocked the 10k, lots of PR's were bested and much hardware was earned.  We're missing a few from this pic, but this is most of us - Renegade Running!

I'd like everyone to take a second and follow or bookmark a couple of our online sites. First is tnhstrackxc.blogspot.com.  The second is our TNHSXC Renegade Running Facebook page.  It's much easier to quickly pop photos online and to give shoutouts that way.  These emails will still be my primary communication.  Also, if you would like to get group texts, please send me message at 502-827-4178.

The spreadsheet that you'll find below is also linked under the 2017 XC times tab on the blog.  I keep this spreadsheet updated all season long so kids can see their times and progression.  Love it or hate it, our sport is governed by time.  While I don't usually use the road races for XC PR's, since our meet that almost everyone was running got cancelled, I have included this morning's times.

It is my hope that this inspires kids to focus on growth and to get competitive.  You want that spot - go get it!!!

Wednesday, 9/6 Popsicle Races here at TNHS - will need the HS kids to stay and help.
Our Renegade Running elementary/middle teams are growing - please continue to spread the word.  We've got awesome young runners beginning to train M, T and TH from 4:30-6:00.  In addition to the Popsicle Series the elementary runners will compete at Hillbilly, the Revolt and the Bluegrass Bolt.

Saturday, 9/9 Iron Horse Festival 5k - we host this 5k road race.  Encourage all community members to come run.  Proceeds benefit the XC program and it's a great little festival.  We will need folks to run registration beginning at 7:00 a.m., and we need chute workers much like at the Weeknight Warfare.

Training schedule -  we sometimes have to make adjustments, but if you're every wondering if an athlete should be training - the answer is probably yes.  If you're taking a bunch of days off right now, you won't be running fast in October.

8/31 update

Good morning TNHSXC family.  Thank you, thank you, a thousand times - THANK YOU! The fantastic support you'all showed our program last night was invaluable in making that meet happen.  I takes a village, and the kids and I are so lucky to have such an amazing XC family.  I love the pic below of our first full girls team of the year.  Super proud of all of the kids in all the races.  We had a lot of first races, new PR's and some gutsy performances.   Results are attached.

Now we get race at someone else's meet!

Or do we?  Below is the amended schedule for the Run for the Gold in E'town.  They are moving all of the races earlier in the day due to heavy rains that are expected to soak the grounds.  Because the portable lighting systems are so big and heavy, they cannot get them in place without destroying everything they drive over.  If it gets too bad, they may have to cancel. Read below -

Coaches:
Here is our new time schedule for Saturday's meet. We still hope and plan to have the meet, but again, we are at the mercy of the Sports Park. Please stay tuned. 1:00 p.m. Boys Elementary Race 1:30 p.m. Girls Elementary Race 2:15 p.m. Boys Middle School Race 2:45 p.m. Girls Middle School Race 3:30 p.m. Open Race 4:15 p.m. Combined Freshman Race 5:00 p.m. Boys JV Race 5:45 p.m. Girls JV Race 6:30 p.m. Boys Varsity Race 7:15 p.m. Girls Varsity Race

Again here are our lineups -
Boys JV, 5:00 - Carson, Ryan, Tyler, Zack, Cameron, Lane, Jackson, Nolan
Girls JV, 5:45 - Devan, Jensen, Kristyn, Nicole, Lexie, Faith, Amelia, Caroline, Tori
Boys Varsity, 6:30 - Marcus, Andrew, Ethan, Jake, Isaac,

Spiritwear / uniforms - orders are due to Apparel and Awards by 9/5.  Remember if your athlete is wearing a loner kit, you have to buy the uniform top and bottom.  They're only $23 and they're our only "fee" in a pretty low cost sport, and they keep them for following seasons.

Labor Day 5k/10k, Monday 9/4 at 8:00 - if we by chance don't get to race Saturday, we will want every available runner at Monday's event.  I'll be running the 10k along with some of our high school kids.  Everyone should at least be doing the 5k.  It's a great community event and we all know that we need more running.

Wednesday, 9/6 Popsicle Races here at TNHS - will need the kids to stay and help.  Our Renegade Running of middle and elementary kids is growing daily.  They're the future of running in this community!

Next Saturday, 9/9 Iron Horse Festival 5k - we host this 5k road race.  Encourage all community members to come run.  Proceeds benefit the XC program and it's a great little festival.  We will need folks to run registration beginning at 7:00 a.m., and we need chute workers much like last night.

This time of year is our most crucial in terms of growth.  After Saturday, we have two non-meet races and lots of consecutive training days.  They just need to be exactly that - CONSECUTIVE TRAINING DAYS!  We have too many kids missing too often.  Post-season is only 10 short weeks away.  Reference the training program linked below - running more and faster is how you get faster!  This plan is on our blog at all times.

Thank you again for all of the support.  I'm honored to work with such great people and to coach such wonderful kids.  Enjoy your holiday weekend, be safe and run hard!

8/28 Update

Good evening (or Monday morning) TNHSXC family.   We had a great kickoff to our season at the super competitive St. X Tiger Run.  Our five varsity boys were the best local team, posted a few PR's and everyone ran sub 20 minutes.  We have much work to do in the next 10 weeks, but it was a pretty good start.  Here they are after their two mile cool down - suns out guns out they say!

Wednesday, 8/30 TNHSXC Weeknight Warfare - every middle and high school TNHS athlete will be competing.   Race times are MS combined 5:30, HS girls 6:00, HS boys 6:40.

Every TNHSXC family member will be needed to contribute making this an awesome event.  We put on terrific races and it is due to the selfless work of our family members.
We need people in the following positions -
Finish line - 6 people (Hines, Goff, ??)
Concessions - 6 people (Newton, Janes, Skees, Hudson)
Lead vehicle driver - 1 person (Mattingly? Dones?)
If you're name is not on the list - you're not off the hook.  Please, I need your help.

Saturday, 9/2 Run for the Gold, E'town Sports Park
I realize this is Labor Day weekend, and I will have some of the athletes listed below unable to attend due to travel. Please let me know as soon as you know.  I'm using this race to provide the opportunity to get as many kids 5k experience as possible.  It has been on the schedule as middle and high school all year, so I hope most everyone is planning to attend.  The varsity races are under the lights, and the course is 75% bermuda grass making it super fast.
Boys JV, 7:15 - Carson, Ryan, Tyler, Zack, Cameron, Lane, Jackson, Nolan
Girls JV, 8:00 - Devan, Jensen, Kristyn, Nicole, Lexie, Faith, Amelia, Caroline, Tori
Boys Varsity, 8:45 - Marcus, Andrew, Ethan, Jake, Isaac, Clay

Middle/ Elementary Renegade Practice - we are continuing to build our team of youngsters.  I'm here to train them 4:30-6:00, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (the elementary kids only need about an hour).  We will welcome new athletes at any time, so please keep spreading the word.  There are great young runners coming out of the Popsicle Races and I'm very excited to help foster that growth.   Beyond the Popsicle series the Elementary kiddos will run at Hillbilly, the Revolt, and the Bolt.  The program is purchasing youth specific kits to issue the elementary kids - so ignore the message below about buying uniforms.

Spiritwear / uniforms - order form is attached and I'll have copies at school.  I have a number of uniform pieces to loan to new runners, but it is the one mandatory item to purchase.  If you're new or are replacing a uniform piece, you must buy them from Apparel and Awards.  Then they can simply return the extras back to me.  The other pieces are fantastic and Coach Hart is awesome to work with.  Some colors are new, and the 1/4 zip pullover is really nice.

Labor Day 5k/10k, Monday 9/4 at 8:00 - this is a terrific event put on by our friends at Nelson County.  It's a community event that anyone can run in - not a meet.  I encourage everyone to come out, run, walk, or support.  This year's proceeds benefit an alum in helping her pay for cancer treatment.  Flyer attached.

Whew! That was a lot.  Have a great week, and I'll see you all on Wednesday.

TNHSXC Summer Update

Good evening TNHS  family.  Hope everyone is enjoying their summers.  We're about to enter the KHSAA Dead Period and a hiatus from "organized" running and communication between coaches and athletes and parents.

Kudos to those kids that have been coming out and putting in the work the last few weeks.  Summer running is key to success in October.  Marcus, Isaac, Lane, Ethan, Zack, Sierra, Devan and Jensen have at least been seen training and I'm super appreciative of their commitment.  The rest of you?  Hope you're running.  If not, get off the couch!

To demonstrate just how special this team's potential is, I've pasted a screenshot of the all-time XC leaderboards.  Notice all of the athletes highlighted in yellow are potential returners.  This is not even taking into account new recruits, improving JV runners or our middle schoolers moving up.  This can be a spectacular season, but it will take all of you!

Again, the training schedule is attached, but don't let the specificity of "workouts" sway you.  As a default, always just build base by running easy miles, building up slowly in duration.

KHSAA Dead Period June 24 - July 9

July 8, Nelson Co. 4H AgDays 5k - See images of flyers attached.  I'll be helping out with timing, but you can come and run without violating dead period rules.  Please come out and support this great organization.
